Village Voice (6/03/03)
On their new fourth album, Runaway Favorite, our electric metropolis’s
venerable bistro-folk duo sing typically smokey songs about bibles and guns,
dreary taxi-less days, carnival tubas on Christmas, and lots of rain. But as
always, to really appreciate their brainy-geek-and-Italian-hottie ethos, you
gotta look at them. (eddy)
Time Out- New York (May 29 – June 5th)
On their second collection of songs, Runaway Favorite (Happy Thighs), Ken Rockwood
and Danielle Brancaccio, aka Professor and Maryann, display rich, old-fashion
pop. It’s the cool side of adult contemporary.
Professor and Maryann have been perennial favorites on the NYC music scene for nearly a decade‹building a dedicated fan base, and receiving rave reviews from the critics for their distinctive sound.
With the recording of their new record, Runaway Favorite, the duo has taken their music to new heights as they add drums, bass and strings to their already lush sound‹making for a truly special record, and a captivating live act.
Their strength being in the beauty of their simplicity, Danielle's sensuously velvet vocals playing off Ken¹s elegant harmonies and subtle hooks.
Described best by Ted Anthony of the Associated Press when he said: Her voice
is like an instrument and his guitar is like a human voice, and rock critic
Vic Garbarini from Playboy says, ŒI can listen to her [Brancaccio] sing
the Chicago phonebook and be in total bliss.the duo balances the cerebral with
dark good looks. The New Yorker.
